Theory and Philosophy

Tai Chi, as an internal martial art, is deeply rooted in classical Chinese philosophy, Daoist metaphysics, traditional Chinese medicine (TCM), and meditative principles. Central concepts such as Qi (vital energy), Yin-Yang balance, and Dantian cultivation reflect its integration of mind-body unity and internal energy regulation (Kirkham, 2008; Kohn, 2004). Understanding these theoretical underpinnings not only enhances the technical execution of Tai Chi forms but also deepens the practitioner's experience by aligning movement with internal intention, energetic flow, and philosophical context (Livia, 2002; Cohen, 1997).
